How Do They Form?

  • EGenetics

Genetics can play a significant role in foot structure and susceptibility to bunions.

  • ENarrow Shoes

Tight footwear can crowd the toes, leading to bunion development.

  • EHigh Heels

Regularly wearing high heels forces toes into a cramped space, contributing to bunions.

  • EFlat Shoes

Certain types of flat shoes that lack adequate arch support can contribute to bunion formation.

  • EFlat Feet

Having flat feet or fallen arches can alter foot mechanics and increase bunion risk.

What Is Lapiplasty Surgery?

FAQs

What can I expect during the recovery process after Lapiplasty® surgery?

Recovery from Lapiplasty® surgery, which is completed in about an hour under general anesthesia, typically involves patients returning home on the same day with a walking boot. For the initial three days, it’s important to stay off the foot, utilizing a scooter or roll-about for mobility. Patients are allowed to bear weight flatfooted in a walking boot for very short distances right away. As the recovery progresses, they can gradually apply more pressure on the foot. By the fourth week, many are able to walk in the boot without additional support, and by the sixth week, a transition to athletic shoes is often possible. Notably, suture or stitch removal is usually not needed at the two-week follow-up. Once out of the walking boot, low impact exercises are allowed, and more strenuous activities like running can be resumed around three months after the surgery.
